PSN Foundation Collaborates with Pharma Sector Regulators to Strengthen Pharmacy Systems in Nigeria

The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria Foundation in an auspicious move to strengthen the Pharmaceutical regulatory space held a one-day engagement meeting with key stakeholders in the pharmaceutical regulatory space on Thursday, February 22nd, 2024 in Lagos, Nigeria. The meeting aimed to foster collaboration among all Pharma Sector Regulators to ensure coherence and improved efficiency in the regulation of pharmaceutical services in Nigeria.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders including The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), the Food & Drugs Services Department of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (FMoHSW), The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration & Control (NAFDAC), Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria amongst other key stakeholders.

Some of the High points of the meeting were the emphasis on the Revised Task Shifting Task Sharing Policy which shifts certain tasks across the healthcare systems, as well as the commitment of all the regulators to work collaboratively towards building a more effective and resilient pharmaceutical sector regulation.

In her goodwill message, the Director of Food & Drugs Services at  FMoHSW Pharm. Olubunmi Arebiana described the meeting as a timely one emphasizing the need for all regulators to work in synergy to provide an effective oversight on the practice of pharmacy and pharmaceutical services in the Country.

At the end of the meeting, the stakeholders pledged to work together, optimize their resources, and support each other to strengthen the pharmaceutical space in Nigeria.
