PSN Foundation Meets With Stakeholders In Kano State For The Domestication Of The National TSTS Policy

The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria Foundation (PSNF) under the IntegratE Project engaged various stakeholders in Kano State towards the domestication of the National Task Shifting Task Sharing (TSTS) Policy. These visits were conducted from the 11th to the 13th of March 2023 at the various stakeholder offices in Kano State.
The stakeholders visited in Kano were the Permanent Secretary, Kano State Ministry of Health, the Director General (DG), Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA), Directors of Pharmaceutical Services, Health Planning Research and Statistics, Manpower & Training, Public Health, among other stakeholders in the Ministry of Health, and Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN).
The PSN Foundation team also met with the State Chapters of the following associations viz the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), and Nigerian Association of Patent and Proprietary Medicine Dealers (NAPPMED).
The purpose of the engagement with these stakeholders were, to develop an action plan for the domestication of the revised TSTS Policy, to conduct mapping of stakeholders and resources and to develop timelines. participants lists & reach a consensus on workshop modalities.
The health workforce is an integral part of the health system and determines the effectiveness of service coverage. The TSTS policy seeks to address healthcare workforce inequality in the State.
During on of the meetings, Mr. Musa Tanko, the Permanent Secretary, Kano State Ministry of Health, assured the team that Kano state is always available and ready to collaborate with partners and stakeholders towards providing better healthcare for the people of Kano State.
The Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria Kano State, Pharm. Murtala Isah Umar, expressed the association’s commitment to collaborate with the State to ensure that a robust document is developed.
The PSNF team met with the PHIMA DG, Prof. Salisu .A. Ibrahim at the PHIMA office. The DG commended the team and the project for considering the people of Kano State in supporting the review of this document. He wishes to collaborate with the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria to build synergy. He seeks this collaboration, for better regulation of the services of the private health sector providers, thereby improving the quality of service by these providers and secure the health of the community.
The NMA advocated for a better regulation of the tasks to be shared and shifted to the lower cadre, and the private healthcare providers by the government and regulatory agencies to safeguard the health of the people of Kano State.
The stakeholders thanked the PSNF and IntegratE for the technical and every other support to Kano State towards the domestication of this important document.
The proposed dates for the workshop upon finalization by the State would be communicated to all relevant stakeholders.
